CS2 days can feel louder than baseball cards. Majors, Bounty brackets, Discord locks, "easy 2-0." That pressure makes people size up.
Flat unit betting ignores the noise. Same stake every graded play. The game changes. The bankroll rule does not.
If you want the full baseball write-up, see flat betting explained. Short definition of the stake label: what does 1u mean. Football twin: flat units in the NFL.
What flat 1u means for CS2
1u is your normal risk on a single series moneyline. You pick a dollar amount tied to your bankroll (often 1% to 2%), then use that same amount on every public play.
Examples:
- $1,000 bankroll → 1u = $10 to $20
- $5,000 bankroll → 1u = $50 to $100
Win Vitality at −180 or fade a plus-money underdog — the unit size stays the same.
Why esports makes people abandon flat sizing
CS2 has lots of matches, but the ones people care about feel huge. After three red days it is tempting to bet 3u on the next "lock" to get even.
That usually digs the hole deeper. Variable staking adds a second random variable on top of an already noisy sport. Map scores swing. Rosters change. Soft lines move. Flat units keep the ledger readable.
What flat units buy you
1. A clean record. +3.4u means something. "+$180 but I hammered the winners" does not.
2. Survivability. A bad week hurts. It should not end the month.
3. Honest comparison. You can compare model days without stake theater.
When CS2 picks go live on Daily Picks Free, public grading uses the same flat 1u approach as MLB. See the CS2 hub for status.
What about "stronger" opinions?
Some people bet 1u on most plays and 1.5u to 2u only when a written rule fires (for example: edge inside a band and win probability above a floor). That can be fine if the rule is fixed before the bet.
What is not fine: sizing up because you lost the last BLAST series, or because Twitter called it free.
Quick checklist
- Unit size set before you start tracking
- Same risk on favorites and dogs
- No "get even" ticket after a red card
- Results logged in units, not only dollars
Flat units will not make a bad model good. They keep a decent process alive long enough to find out which it is.
